BEN CALF ROBE - Belonging, Caring, Respect

"We need wisdom, work and respect" is the motto of our school.

This statement was given to us by our namesake Ben Calf Robe - a Native elder who worked very hard to bring education to his people. He spent his life trying to make sure his people had access to and right to, be educated.

Today, our school continues to strive for the best possible education for our students. We are devoted to educating the whole person; the physical, the emotional, the spiritual, and the mental. We teach the students the Native ways in a Catholic setting. We combine Native teachings, practices, traditions, ceremonies and beliefs with our own Catholic teachings, practices, traditions, ceremonies and beliefs. We learn that what we share in common, is stronger than what may be different between us. We form a new and strong, diverse and special, unique and powerful, community of learners working together to help each other be the best we can be, each day. We strive to choose dreams to aspire to, to set goals to achieve, and to choose plans for attaining these, for our students, our families, and our staff.

In addition, we offer many cultural and academic courses of study. We support our students and their families with the many services and programs involved at our school and in our classrooms. From Enrichment of the Arts to Big Brothers/Sisters and Study Buddies...we attempt to meet the needs and interests of all who belong in and are a member of, our school family. Through dance, song, arts and crafts, and other activities...we enhance the learning provided at our school. We open our doors to the community through cultural events like our Round Dances, Pow Wows, Feasts, and we also work together with the Ben Calf Robe Society...to nurture the families and Native communities we celebrate with.

BCR is 'Building Creator Rock'. At Ben Calf Robe School...we want to grow and learn and be as strong as the rock. Each of us is the piece of that rock and together we are strong. We learn from each other, with each other, and for each other. We realize that each of us has gifts, talents and abilities, that were given to us by God our Creator. We must respect these and use these to benefit each other and our planet Mother Earth.

Ben Calf Robe School has evolved into a thriving and vibrant school community. We have grown in size and in structure. We are becoming the full realization of Ben Calf Robe's dream for his people, and also, realizing a distinct, important, and needed program offered, within Edmonton Catholic Schools.

Ben Calf Robe is a challenging and rewarding place to learn, to work and to grow. It is and has, a life of its own. It is truly a gift, to be a part of this place and its people.
